Abstract

The object of the study is to give readers a glims of Alka Milat Habtie, one of the EOTC well-known scholars. The live of Aleka Milat simply shows how the Church has been consistently producing influencial scholars who have brought innovative ideas to the institution and the country as well. His bibliogaphy was written in a fragmented form by few scholars such as Tsehafie Tiezaz Gebre Sellase Wolde Argay, Hiruy Wolde Sellase, Lema Hailu, Admasu Jembre, Krapf, Sirgew Hable sillase and others. Aleka Milat started his religious education in his native place and expanded it to different places Aleqa Lema Hailu says that even though Aleqa Milat learned Zema, qine and the four interpretation books, he had a special love for qine. That was why I was motivated to study about him. Because, I believe, studying educated and influencial scholars like him may benefit new and young Christian scholars, both interms of their religious career and personal humble life. The source of the study is mainly secondary. Data have been collected from chronicles, travelles of European explorers and other sources. There are two reasons why my sources of information are only archives. The first reason is that I was unable to find informants and respondents who knew the scholar. The second reason is that even though I knew the availability of considerable information at Ankober Michael Church, where he taught for many years. Yet I could not rich the place because of security reasons. The findings show how influencial he was and how big his contribution to the Church was in terms of his teachings and personal life.
