Abstract

This study titled “Analysis of Social Significance in Tsome Digua” had the objective to analyze the content of Dïggʷwa thereby attempting to show the role of the significance of the book from literary perspective. The study posed and attempted to answer the following research questions: What is the literary aspect of the book? What social issues are found in the book S'omä Dïggʷwa? What do these issues look like when examined through structural applied theory? The main reason why the study was conducted was to survey the book of Dïggʷwa there by showing the universality of St. Yared’s book of Dïggʷwa, indicating the perspective of St. Yared on social issues, and showing the level of literary development during that time. The study has been delimited to the book Dïggwa, specifically S'omä Dïggwa and examined only from the social significance perspective. The study employed qualitative research method and used non-probability sampling (criticalsampling method). The main source of information was Yared’s S'omä Dïggwa. The study employed document analysis and used structural applied theory to do the analysis. The findings of the study showed that the book has considerable significance in terms of analyzing a number of social issues such as social cohesion, education, politics, economics, family and religion.
